It always amazes me how two unrelated things can suddenly become one joyful thing. I doubt anyone ever said, “Hey! I have a great idea! Let’s add nuclear warheads to Santa’s arsenal!” And, yet, on December 24, 1955, that’s pretty much what happened. A Denver department store put an ad in the local paper offering kids the chance to talk directly to Santa on Christmas Eve. Although much is lost to the mists of time one must assume they had hired, or cajoled, someone to play Santa. As it turned out that dude was in for a lonely night. You see, the company had put the wrong number in the ad. Instead of getting the North Pole kids got the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) Operations Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Hi There
I realize I’ve been M.I.A. for a bit. I’ve been limiting my World News Center duties to creating content for The Big Wakeup Call with Ryan Gatenby on WBIG 1280 AM.This is all due to basic time management. It takes time to do all the research required for each episode, plus I have obligations to fans and clients of my fiction writing. Whether I get income directly from any of them, or if some of them just help justify people giving me money, the fact is those are how I put food on the table. Add in the annoying fact that I’ve had chronic diarrhea since April, sorry for that visual, and was in a car wreck in May that did bad things to my knees, and I hope you can understand why I dropped this particular ball. The Fourth of July is Still a Lie
If you’re curious why everything you think you know about the Fourth of July is wrong, just click here and get the real skinny on the holiday. If you just want a bunch of trivia based around the date, then click here and have fun. Happy Pride!

The image you’re looking at is me in 2019 celebrating Pride month. In the eleven years I’ve been writing this blog I have continued to take the position that all humans should have the same rights. I’ve gotten older, fatter, and have had a couple of health scares but my opinion hasn’t changed. Seeing as how this country has barely survived the most bigoted (and that’s saying something in a country that had Andrew Jackson’s Trail-of-Tears), anti-science, regime in American history, I thought it might be time to look at a couple of examples of some of the positive highlights I’ve found while hanging out here. There are many more, and you can find them by using the lovely search engine located in the upper right hand side of every page. I won’t be linking to these blogs in any chronological order. More like what showed up in my search engine first got used first. Without any further ado, and – yes – these are all true, let’s begin. [Read more…] about Happy Pride!
The Marvelous Marvels on Marvel TV
Falcon and the Winter Soldier just completed its debut season following on the heels of Wandavision. The two shows couldn’t have been more different. The latter was a deep dive into a disturbed, and powerful, mind that’s trying to come to grips with the loss of a loved one. The show used classic sitcoms as the frame for Wanda’s torment. Falcon and the Winter Soldier, on the other hand, decided to tackle racism and social inequities head on with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer to the face.
