May the Mouse Be With You

Minnie is just going to love this!

Back on January 8, 2011 I did a little article comparing Star Wars fans to Star Trek fans. It all came down to SW fans like toys and ST fans like ideas. Yesterday, in what will go down in history as one of the biggest dick moves any human has ever done, George Lucas sold everything he owns and all the rights thereto to Disney for $4 billion. Why is it a dick move? Because for the last 40 years Twentieth Century Fox has marketed every single Star wars film and they weren't even sent a Post It Note (tm) letting them know that he was looking to sell. In fact they didn't find out until reporters showed up and asked them what they thought of the … [Read more...]

"Dude you wrote that funny thing about stuff. You know, Star Wars and Star Trek and stuff? Could you find it again please?" Well, yes I did and yes I can. And since it rounds out the previous two blogs nicely I'm tossing it back up. This originally appeared on January 8, 2011. *************** There has always been a clearly defined line between Start Trek fans and Star Wars fans. Star Trek's are the more cerebral of the two. Fans not only follow the shows, they learn new languages, discuss how Paul Dirac's theories on anti-matter, when coupled with Einstein's theory of relativity, could truly lend credence to the argument for faster … [Read more...]

Thanking Dr. King for Star Trek (again)

This is a repost from February 11, 2012 at the request of a fan. You're welcome Latisha. ************** You read the title and figured, "Okay, this is it. The big dude has finally lost it." Everyone knows that Dr. King had a dream and not a star ship. Well, "everyone" knows lots of crap that's wrong. Although it is true that Dr. King did not actually have a star ship, he did have a dream that powered one. And that dream led to the unlikely event of television's first ever interracial kiss. Think of it in the pinball reality of how the water wheel powered loom led directly to computers. Which is true. As is the title of today's blog. … [Read more...]

A Robot Mistaken for a Human, Meet: Geminoid.

GeminoidDK Robot

Okay, so I admit... I'm one of those nerds that watched Star Trek: The Next Generation growing up. Who am I kidding, I still watch the re-runs today:)! One of my favorite characters on the series was the Android named, "Data." He had human-like characteristics, but lacked the ability to feel emotion like humans. It's unknown whether the Geminoid DK is that advanced just yet, but it could truly be mistaken for a person. Henrik Scharfe has successfully created his own ageless robot clone. Aalborg University's Scharfe has been working with Kokoro and Japan's Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International (ATR) to create … [Read more...]
