A Pop of Color This Spring

One of my favorite all time fashion websites is called the Sartorialist.  This blogger takes fantastic fashion photos from all over, a combination of both fashion shows and people on the street, and post them to his blog.  There are minimal words needed as the fashion often speaks for itself. A recent post of his highlighted the fantastic use of turquoise and mustard in fashion in London. Maybe it's not even turquoise so much as cerulean?  Do you remember that color from Crayola's 99 box of crayons?  For some reason it always resonated with me, and blue isn't even my color!  You can check it out by visiting the link above for more … [Read more...]

Jewelry Commercials – Total Crap

Valentine's Day is fast approaching, which means stupid jewelry store commercials have come out in full force.  It's even worse this time of year than at Christmas.  I really think these jewelry stores save their worst and most obnoxious commercials for February. As a disclaimer, the intent of this blog is not to offend anyone who has jewelry from any of the jewelry stores I mock. I have just decided to share with the world how much I HATE jewelry store commercials in honor of this annual tradition that is dead-set on making me hurl. Here I am minding my own business watching American Idol and letting my brain slowly turn to mush when … [Read more...]

So.....How about that snow?  Maybe you disagree, but I love it.  Anytime you are able to get a snow day from WORK -- I mean, adult, grown-up work -- that is a good day if you ask me. But what does that do for your weekend plans?  Will we even be able to move out and about this weekend?  Will the roads be cleared by Friday?  Will you have run out of ramen noodles by then?  Have no fear!  Not only will I provide you things to do if you are able to shovel your way out of your house, but suggestions for good, clean, indoor fun as well.  Whatever you do, just make sure you are dressed appropriately and keep warm! I had the good fortune of being in Las Vegas this week for a work conference and it inspired me to put a unique spin on what to do this weekend.  What's so unique about Vegas is that you can be transported to a variety of different places around the world just by walking down one street.  I stayed at New York, New York, but I also visited Paris, Venice, and Cairo.  It was pretty sweet.  So, why not take a tip from Vegas and do a little traveling this weekend?  All without leaving the fantastic city of Chicago, of course! Paris Let's start with my favorite city in the whole world.  You can eat at a variety of restaurants this weekend … [Read more...]

You know what I like?  Besides WARM WEATHER of course?  Food.  I really really like food.  It makes me very happy.  Plus it usually warms me up some.  In the spirit of eating, gorging, and overindulging, I am going to focus this Chicago Weekend on great foodie things to do.  Grab your fork and bib and let's go! (1)   Chicago Originals Restaurant Week This is my favorite week of the year.  You can check out the website above and enjoy yourself some delicious full course meals for $29.11 -- a slightly obscure price, yes, but always worth it.  Trattoria Roma, Le Titi de Paris and Co-Si-Na Grill are just some of the restaurants … [Read more...]

Ready for summer yet?  I sure am!  No one wants cold and snow once the holidays are over.  The bright side to this dark and cold winter is that there is still plenty to do in the most fabulous city in the world!  Laugh yourself silly, buy yourself a boat, get a tattoo for some kitties and stuff yourself full of tapas! Wow, even a cold weekend in Chicago is better than being warm anywhere else! (1)   Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival This weekend finishes up the annual sketch comedy party.  It runs through Sunday which means you still have a chance to check out some hilarious entertainers and laugh your pants off…or is it … [Read more...]

What are you doing this weekend?  It's the weekend after New Year's Eve.  It's January.  It's cold.  Everyone hates January except those who have a birthday this month.  It's like the red-headed step-child of the calendar.  And you know I'm right, otherwise you would stop reading here. The way I see it, you have two choices.  You can either hole up in your cave and try to stay warm, nursing a cheap beer and watching Jersey Shore and American Idol, like me, or be super fun and cool and get out and about!  And doing the things I've suggested, no less! First Fridays -- Museum of Contemporary Art Guess what's back?....That's … [Read more...]

All That Glitters is Not Gold this NYE

The other day I was listening to Kanye West and his song "Family Business" shuffled it's way onto my iPod.  One of the lines in the song inspired the title to this blog.  And you know why?  Because all I have been seeing in stores lately is sequins, glitter, and more sequins. The big theme for this New Year's Eve is sparkly!  I walked into Charlotte Russe and was forced to put my sunglasses on -- the sequins was so bright, it was like being slapped in the face by the sun.  But the good news was, I found plenty of sequins and sparkly options at Charlotte Russe....and Forever 21....and H&M.  Breathe a sigh of relief, you don't have … [Read more...]

El Etiquette

etiquette

This is something I have been working on for quite some time.  It is near and dear to my heart, as I take the CTA el home from work every evening.  I thought it was perfect timing too, since the CTA is hosting their penny rides this New Year's Eve.  But before I dive into what constitutes etiquette on the el, I wanted to highlight my ride home this evening..... The train came to a jerky stop.  I was standing right in front of the door and spotted a few seats open, so I entered first and headed towards one.  Oh look.  A punk kid with his legs sprawled all over it. I was about to ask him to move his legs when a girl entering the … [Read more...]
